I used this tool to remove the crankshaft seal on the M54 engine timing cover. To use it properly, you must place the removal tool from the inside of the timing cover, pushing the seal out towards the outside of the timing cover. Use a mallet and some patience to get it out. Use the specified automotive-grade material, keep the tool square and inspect the serviced component before reassembly.

I used it for my BMW E46 and it is very sturdy. You can use a 32mm Hex Nut or a 1/2" square wrench to open the oil filter cap. The Tool on the picture was an earlier smaller version but it broke.
